Karrimor is one of the Britain’s oldest outdoor companies, having been founded in 1946 by Charles and Mary Parsons. The heritage of the brand is clear from its many remarkable achievements. Karrimor started making climbing sacks back in 1958, produced a new sack with legendary climber Joe Brown in 1960 and developed ‘the most famous alpine sac ever’ with accomplished mountaineer Dougal Haston in 1972. Chris Bonnington went on to conquer Everest’s south west face using Karrimor equipment in 1975.
Not content with rucksacks, in 1980 the company invents the Karrimor Sports Boot (KSB) the first ever outdoor footwear made of lightweight fabric. The first KSBs were not waterproof and many traditional leather boot wearers said that fabric/suede boots would never catch on – how wrong they were!
Today Karrimor produces a wide range of outdoor footwear using either eVENT® or Weathertite® waterproof breathable linings. Fabric boots and fabric shoes still feature strongly but Karrimor have also built their technical features into leather boots. Unlike some other brands, Karrimor form their walking boots on a last specifically designed for British feet, ensuring superior comfort and the correct anatomical support and fit.
Karrimor rucksacks continue to be used by many thousands of outdoor enthusiasts around the world.
